For the second consecutive week, BYU punter Ryan Rehkow has been named one of Ray's 8 performers by the Augusta Sports Council and the Ray Guy Award. This recognition comes after his impressive game against Southern Utah last Saturday. Rehkow, a junior from Veradale, Washington, had a game-high punt of 64 yards, which is tied for his second-longest of this year. He also had five punts for 225 yards and an average of 45.0 yards per kick, including two kicks inside the 20-yard line, one of which was downed at the 2-yard line.
Joining Rehkow on the week-two Ray's 8 list are James Burnip from Alabama, James Ferguson-Reynolds from Boise State, Jesse Mirco from Ohio State, Riley Reithman from Navy, Ryan Sanborn from Texas, Stephen Kotsanlee from Utah State, and Tory Taylor from Iowa. This is not the first time Rehkow has been recognized by Ray's 8, as he was named to the list in week one of the 2023 season and later selected as the Ray Guy Award National Punter of the Week.
Rehkow's talent and hard work have been recognized not only by Ray's 8 but also by the Ray Guy Award, which named him to their watch list for the third consecutive year in early August 2023. He was also selected for the 2023 Phil Steele Preseason All-Big 12 Second Team after finishing last year with a punting average of 46.2. Additionally, Rehkow has received other accolades, including being named to the Associated Press All-Bowl Team and the College Football Network All-Independent First Team as a sophomore in 2022. He has also excelled academically, having been named CSC Academic All-District in 2023 and selected CoSIDA Academic All-District 8 First Team in 2022. He graduated from the BYU Marriott School of Management with a degree in finance in April with a high GPA of 3.74.
