Mustangs Fall To No. 18 Oklahoma
Number 18 Oklahoma defeated SMU 28-11 on Saturday night, highlighted by Dillon Gabriel's four touchdown passes and Tawee Walker's career high 117 rushing yards. Andrel Anthony caught seven passes for 76 yards and a touchdown, while linebacker Danny Stutsman anchored a steady defense with 17 tackles and one sack. Meanwhile, Preston Stone passed for 250 yards, Jaylan Knighton had 103 yards from scrimmage and Jake Bailey caught seven passes for 73 yards for SMU.
Despite outgaining Oklahoma 367 yards to 365, SMU turned the ball over twice and had a punt blocked, while the Sooners went without a turnover. Dillon Gabriel connected with Andrel Anthony for a 29-yard touchdown pass to open the scoring in the first quarter. Later, Gabriel found Jalil Farooq for 21 yards three minutes after SMU's touchdown to go up 21-11. Oklahoma took control of the game from there, with Gabriel completing his fourth touchdown pass to Marcus Major.
The Mustangs put up a good fight, showing that they'll be ready for their move next season to the Atlantic Coast Conference. Despite struggling to finish drives, they were competitive throughout the game. They'll have a chance to bounce back when they host Prairie View next Saturday. Oklahoma, on the other hand, will look to continue their unbeaten start to the season when they face Nebraska on the road.
